Cách dùng Too và Enough viết lại câu
CÁCH DÙNG TOO VIẾT LẠI CÂU
Too là một trạng từ tiêu cực.
Too + Tính từ + To-Infinitive hàm nghĩa sự quá độ một tố chất khiến cho không thể xảy ra hành động mà To-Infinitive nêu.
Ví dụ:
- too difficult to solve (dịch là: quá khó không thể giải)
- too sleepy to stay awake (dịch là: quá buồn ngủ không thể thức nỗi)
Cụm từ for + Tân ngữ được xen thêm khi cần cho biết rõ về người thực hiện.
Ví dụ 1:
This soup is too hot; I can’t drink it.
This soup is too hot (for me) to drink.
Tránh lỗi: cần bỏ đại từ tân ngữ sau To-Infinitive nếu đại từ này với chủ ngữ câu trước là một.
Ví dụ 2:
That’s a lot of money; a book like that shouldn’t cost so much.
That’s a lot of money for a book like that.
Thực tập kết hợp câu:
1. It’s very cold; we can’t go out.
2. This book is very difficult; I can’t read it.
3. She came very late; the lesson was over.
4. This hat is very big; he’s only a little boy.
5. It’s very far; we can’t walk.
6. He’s very stupid; he can’t understand.
7. It’s very small; this is a big room.
8. This mountain is very high; we can’t climb it.
9. It’s very good; it can’t be true.
10. It’s very far; I can’t see anything.
11. This dress is very old; I can’t wear it anymore.
12. It’s very wet; you mustn’t go out.
13. This grammar is very difficult; a child can’t understand it.
14. The music is very soft; we can’t hear it.
15. It’s very hot; I can’t go out.
CÁCH DÙNG ENOUGH VIẾT LẠI CÂU
Enough là một trạng từ tích cực.
Tính từ + Enough + To-Infinitive hàm nghĩa sự hội đủ một tố chất khiến cho đủ khả năng thực hiện hành động mà To-Infinitive nêu.
Hãy so sánh để thấy rõ hơn:
He is too ill to need a doctor. = Ông ấy bệnh quá đến mức gọi bác sĩ cũng vô ích.
He is ill enough to need a doctor. = Ông ấy bệnh đến mức cần phải gọi bác sĩ.
Chú ý về enough: nó chỉ đi trước danh từ nhưng đi sau tính từ và trạng từ.
Thực tập kết hợp câu:
1. You are quite clever; you understand perfectly.
2. You are quite old now; you ought to know better
3. I am very tired; I can sleep all night.
4. Are you very tall? Can you reach that picture?
5. The fruit is ripe; we can pick it.
6. The story is short; we can read it in one lesson
7. The moon is very bright; I can read a book by it.
8. The wind is very strong; it can blow the roof off.
9. That man is quite stupid; he believes me.
10. I have enough money; I can pay the bill.
